Board of Directors

Dustin Johnson

Dustin JohnsonPresident and Chief Executive Officer

Johnson was born in Columbia, South Carolina. He played collegiate golf at Coastal Carolina University. As an amateur, he won the Monroe Invitational and the Northeast Amateur in 2007 and played on the winning 2007 Walker Cup and Palmer Cup teams.
Johnson turned professional in 2007 and earned his 2008 PGA Tour card by finishing in a tie for 14th place in the 2007 qualifying school.

Johnson won his first PGA Tour event, the Turning Stone Resort Championship in October 2008. Four months later, he won his second event at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, a tournament that was shortened to 54 holes when the final round was cancelled due to strong winds and heavy rain, leaving Johnson the winner by four strokes over Mike Weir and five strokes over second round leader Retief Goosen, who shot a third round 2 over par 74. Johnson finished the 2009 season ranked 15th on the PGA Tour money list.

In February 2010, Johnson birdied the final hole to defeat former world number one David Duval and two-time PGA Tour winner J. B. Holmes to successfully defend his AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am title.

Johnson continued his Pebble Beach success by shooting 71-70-66 to take a three shot lead over Graeme McDowell at the 2010 U.S. Open, but scored a disappointing 82 in the final round and finished T8 (McDowell won the tournament).

In the final round of the 2010 PGA Championship, Johnson held a one-shot lead entering the final hole. He appeared to have bogeyed the hole, which would have tied him for first and entered him into a three-hole playoff with Bubba Watson and Martin Kaymer. However, he received a two-stroke penalty for grounding his club in a bunker, thereby dropping him to a tie for fifth place. Kaymer eventually won the playoff.

Johnson capture the third FedEx Cup playoff event, the BMW Championship at Cog Hill in September 2010. It was Johnson's fourth career PGA Tour victory, and his first FedEx Cup playoff event.

Allen Terrell

Allen TerrellVice President

In his tenth year at the helm, Head Coach Allen Terrell has built the Coastal Carolina men's golf program into one of the nation's elite programs through his ability to provide comprehensive coaching, both on and off the course, to his players. After inheriting a team ranked No. 224 in the country, the program finished the 2006-07 season ranked third in the nation and posted a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the highest team finish ever by a Big South Conference squad in any sport. Terrell earned 2007 East Region Coach of the Years honor for that squad,
adding to his already illustrious total of six Big South Coach of the Year awards. He has led his teams to seven of the top nine season scoring averages in the annals of the program, including 2006-07's record-setting mark while playing the program's toughest-ever schedule that included the fifth-place NCAA finish. While being Golfweek magazine’s “National team of the week” five times in the last five years, the Coastal Carolina men’s golf team has had seven Big South Conference Champions and the first ever NCAA individual qualifier under Terrell’s coaching.

Terrell has established himself as one of the top teaching instructors in the nation, providing the unique ability in college golf of working on the development of the individual player, including bio-mechanic and physiology assessment and golf-specific fitness training. Currently the Director of Instruction at TPC of Myrtle Beach, he also works with numerous professional players on the PGA, European PGA and Developmental tours. He currently coaches several PGA Tour professionals, including Coastal Carolina alumnus Dustin Johnson, one of the rising stars on the PGA Tour. He was also mentioned as of the top young instructors in the country by The Golf Channel.

As a college coach, he has had success in both his work with individuals as well as putting together quality teams. He has developed and taught 18 All-Americans, three National Championship individual participants, nine conference Players of the Year, nine conference champions, 46 All-Conference honorees and 14 U.S. Amateur participants. His teams have won ten conference titles, made 11 NCAA Championship appearances, including six consecutive with the Chanticleers, and won 33 tournaments.

Individually, Terrell has recruited, taught and coached seven of the top 10 players in school history. In four years of fine tuning his game under Terrell's guidance, Dustin Johnson became Coastal Carolina's first All-American and ended his career as a three-time All-American, as well as being a member of the United States team for the 2006 U.S.A. vs. Japan Cup and 2007 Walker and Palmer Cups, helping the U.S. to victories in each event. Johnson then moved on to the professional ranks, where he earned his PGA Tour card in his first trip through Qualifying School. As well, former Chanticleer Alex Larrazabal showed the success of development. After a solid collegiate career, Larrazabal won the 2002 British Amateur and played in the 2002 British Open and 2003 Masters.

While golf is important, Terrell wants his student-athletes to get more out of their experience. In each of his nine seasons, the Chants have had a team grade-point average of 3.1 or higher. The team grade-point average improved from 2.4 in 1999 to 3.34 in 2007. His players have also been named to the University's Dean's List more than 70 different times.

Terrell came to Coastal Carolina after serving two seasons as the Assistant Men's and Women's Golf Coach at Duke University. In his first year, the women's team won the NCAA Championship and the men's team ranking improved from No. 64 in the country to No. 18. During his tenure, the women's team won back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference Championships while garnering the top spot in the national rankings both seasons and setting a school record with eight tournament victories. Terrell also coached the women’s 1999 and 2000 ACC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. The men's team finished runner-up at the conference championship and qualified for the national championship, while including the 1999 ACC Individual Champion and Freshman of the Year.

Before his time at Duke, Terrell served as the Assistant Coach at his alma mater Methodist College from 1998 to 1999. While coaching the 1998 and 1999 NCAA Division III Individual National Champions, Terrell coached seven Golf Coach Association of America All-Americans. During his career at Methodist, the men's team won the NCAA Division III Championship, setting two new NCAA Championship scoring records – single round and four round records.

As a whole, Terrell taught and coached the 2008 PGA Tour Turning Stone Champion, 2009 PGA Tour AT&T Pebble Beach Champion, three 2008 PGA Tour members, two 2008 European Tour members, the 2008 NCAA National Champion, 2007 Walker Cup, 2002 British Amateur Champion, 20 British Amateur participants, 17 US Amateur participants, six Curtis Cup team members, 34 All-American recipients, five NCAA National Champions, 13 Conference Championship winners, 52 All-Conference recipients, 13 Conference Player of the Years, and 14 Conference Rookie of the Years.

Along with his duties as Director of Golf and TPC Director of Instruction, Terrell owns and operates the Allen Terrell's Players Academy, Inc. A 1997 graduate of Methodist College with a bachelor's degree in business administration and finance with an emphasis in professional golf management, Terrell resides in Garden City, South Carolina.
